The Academy was founded in 1983 to meet the need for a standard of professional training for Clinical Hypnotherapists which is as high, as comprehensive and as soundly based as the training for any other of the health professions. The Academy was the first in Australia to achieve government accreditation in the vocational education training (VET) sector for clinical hypnotherapy.
The Academy’s Training Programs have been developed over a number of years with input from a wide range of health professionals including Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Counsellors, Medical Practitioners, Nurses, Naturopaths, Chiropractors and Clinical Hypnotherapists. Dr Cowen’s PhD in Clinical Hypnotherapy Education, from Western Sydney University (formerly the University of Western Sydney) is the highest specialist qualification in Australia and is of international standing. Spanning over four decades, the scope of his knowledge and expertise is extensive and infuses our training to integrate clinical hypnotherapy with counselling, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Transactional Analysis and Gestalt. All psychotherapies are taught within a clinical hypnotherapy model which not only teaches the psychotherapy but also how to use that skill within a clinical hypnotherapy practice. Our training converts the theory to practice and our graduates are required to demonstrate competencies and proficiencies to the highest professional levels.

Mini Units and Condensed Units
Mini Units are a series of online low cost Continuing Professional Development (CPD) which provide notes, lectures (some recorded live in the classroom) and learning activities.
This Condensed Unit Series delivers online, low cost Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and includes notes, audio lectures (recorded live in the classroom) and learning activities. The Condensed Units provide significantly more than the Mini Units for those practitioners who want to develop new knowledge and skills or build on existing skill sets.
These CPD units were created in response to requests from regional practitioners. They are also attracting practitioners who appreciate the convenience of being able to undertake the CPD in their own time in their own home or office.

Southern Cross University (SCU)
This course is unique as it is the only clinical hypnosis/hypnotherapy unit/course at university level in Australia and is of international standing. Further development is happening and it is expected that it will provide an award of Graduate Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy.
Dr Cowen is working with SCU to provide a pathway for existing clinical hypnotherapists which will recognise previous training and experience using recognition of Prior of Prior Learning (RPL).
