Professor Gordon Emmerson - Resource Therapy as a Trauma Informed Crisis Intervention Therapy

Resource Therapy as a Trauma Informed Crisis Intervention Therapy

This workshop will provide short overview of Resource Therapy (RT) with a focus on how to assist clients who are dealing with immediate crisis.  Participants will be able to gain an understanding of both the theory behind the therapy and many of the techniques used within the therapy.   RT is currently being taught in several locations in Australia, Indonesia, and in several European Countries, including Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Luxemburg, Italy, UK and Romania.

Crisis

Therapists are often presented with a client who has experienced trauma.  This is especially true locally as many of us are now being called to help with the horrific bushfire tragedies occurring Australia wide. Other clients may have experienced traumatic events either at home, during an accident, an attack, or they may have come to Australia from an overseas crisis hotspot.  Workshop participants will learn step by step techniques for empowering traumatised clients. Participants will become aware of the things that should be focused on and on what not to do. It is important that traumatised personality states are able to feel safe and supported and for our clients to have access to strong states that can be called on easily to help.

Resource Therapy

Resource Therapy (RT) is a new psychological therapy encompassing a complete array of interventions for a full range of categories, including Obsessive Compulsive Behaviour, Personality Disorders, Dissociative Identity Disorder, Eating Disorders, and Addictions. It is based on its own unique theory of personality.  The personality is viewed, not as a homogenous whole, but as a set of states (Resource States) that, when healthy, act as resources for the individual.  One state may pathologically conduct Obsessive Compulsive Behaviour, while a non-pathological state may earnestly report this behaviour to the therapist.  The power of RT is that its intervention protocols can facilitate working directly with the states that need change, rather than the therapist continuing to interact with normal non-problematic personality states. According to RT theory, there are eight distinct pathological conditions that result in client pathology. A detailed set of RT Actions (techniques) are prescribed according to each of the eight RT diagnostic conditions.  (ResourceTherapyInternational.com)

The Presenter: Gordon Emmerson, PhD

  1. Foundation Training Certificate – 2 Days

  2. Clinical Qualification Training – 10 Days (includes Foundation Training)
