Paper Information : The decades ahead -
hypnotherapy as a profession
There are tremendous opportunities for the
profession to learn from its rich and diverse
past in order to move forward as a legitimate
profession in the coming decades. In this
presentation, he will give an overview of the
history of the profession, rather than of
hypnotherapy itself. He will also be showing how
different countries have either embraced or
worked against the establishment of a “hypno”
profession and what can be learned from these
experiences. |

Grant
Boddington : New Zealand
Grant Boddington has been
working with Hypnosis for close to 20 years –
nowadays, mostly using his knowledge in
Hypnotherapy, Corporate motivation and
Hypnotherapist training. Grant owns and operates
Hypnosis New Zealand, an independent Hypnosis
group that, via its website, provides free
Hypnosis information and support to hundreds of
Hypnotherapists and clients every week.
Grant is a long time
member of the NZ Association of Professional
Hypnotherapists, the NZ Hypnotherapists
Registration Board and the NZ Hypnotherapy
Federation. Hypnosis and Grant are great
partners! |
Presentation Time :
Saturday 12th September 1100 - 1200
Paper Information : Modern Suggestive
Hypnotherapy
Complimenting his new book
of the same name, Grant’s “Modern Suggestive
Hypnotherapy” presentation is an interesting
look at the effectiveness of using a more
permissive blend of techniques to suit the 21st
century client. The 20th century authoritarian
styles of Hypnotherapy are being met with more
and more suspicion, cynicism and distrust
nowadays and, in his experience, are being
superseded by more direct and rapid fixes,
featuring more input from the client and less
control by the Hypnotherapist. |

Susy is passionate about the advancement of
hypnotherapy as a respected profession. She is
truly dedicated to educating people about the
truths and benefits of hypnotism and its role in
the creation of a better quality life for all. |
Presentation Time :
Saturday 12th September - 1100 - 1200
Paper Information : Building Rapport and Gaining
Trust Using a Tree Drawing
Rapport and trust are the
two pillars on which our hypnotic work rests. If
we fail to build a trusting relationship with
our clients we are failing our clients and the
profession of hypnotherapy. There are many ways
to build rapport. Interpreting our clients
drawing of a tree is a fun and non-threatening
way of achieving rapport. We can use the drawing
as a tool to gain insight and build rapport as
we discuss different aspects of a tree that they
have drawn. Tree drawing is a projective test.
Projective tests attempt to measure personality
based on the theory that individuals tend to
project their own unconscious attitudes into
ambiguous situation. |

David Kennedy :
Queensland, Australia
David Kennedy
has been a counsellor for over fifty years, and
began his working life as a church minister. He
first came in contact with hypnosis when given a
tape during an illness, and he found that
profound control over our bodies and mind was
available to us all. After undergoing training in
"traditional" hypnosis, David became aware that
he had been using hypnotic techniques with the
people who had been coming to him for help in
his role as community counsellor. His original
training was revolutionised when he came in
contact with the teaching of the American
Psychiatrist, Dr Milton Erickson. From that
point, he incorporated the idea of client-centred
therapy in both his practice and teaching.
David was a delegate to
the historic 1994 Queensland Government
Legislative Review Committee. The outcome of
their efforts resulted in changes to the law and
deregulation of the practice of hypnosis in
Queensland. David represented the AHA for a
number of years in Queensland as State Executive
Officer. In 2007, he was pleased to be presented
with Life Membership of the AHA.
David has presented
hypnosis on radio and television, culminating in
a nationwide presentation of hypnotherapy on
Channel Nine's original series of "What's Good
For You". This resulted in an Australia-wide
response, indicating how open people are to the
possibilities that hypnotherapy represents. |
Presentation Time :
Saturday 12th September - 1200 - 1300
Paper Information: Hypnosis in the
Treatment of Cancer Pain
The diagnosis and
treatment of cancer can bring an array of pain
and distress that rarely occurs in any other
illness. The diagnosis itself is confronting and
threatening, and represents powerful and
negative suggestions. Among these, fear of
death, expectation of pain, and loss of control
of the future predominate.
David will provide a range of pain reduction and
management approaches that he has employed in
his work as a registered consultant
hypnotherapist to the Commonwealth
Rehabilitation Service. Using these techniques
allows the hypnotherapist to help clients live
better, and in some cases longer. |

Michael Affleck :
New Zealand
Michael Affleck B.Sc., Dip. Clin. Hyp. is a
hypnotherapist and NLP practitioner who has
studied hypnotherapy, NLP and other therapeutic
modalities for over a decade.
He has practised
hypnotherapy in New Zealand and created
www.michaelaffleck.com and
www.somahypnotherapy.com to deliver his services
in Australia and worldwide. He has a diverse
range of influences from psychology, buddhism,
and art therapy. |
Presentation Time :
Saturday 12th September - 1200 - 1300
Paper Information : Engaging the Higher Self
Through Hypnosis
This
presentation will introduce the concept of the
higher-self as it has been understood previously
and how it can be used successfully with
hypnotherapy to create significant, positive
changes in an individual’s life. It will also
introduce practical techniques and scripts to
engage the higher self and examine modern
psychological interpretations of the concept.
Traditionally the higher self, or transpersonal
self is associated with multiple belief systems
i.e. Buddhism, Hinduism, Shamanism and with an
eternal, conscious and intelligent being. The
term has been referred to by many of history’s
mystics and visionaries. It is considered to be
spiritual in nature. |

Dr Alberto
Torelli : Italy
In 1995 he was
collaborating on-line with Barry Marshall (a
future Nobel Prize in 2005) about Helicobacter
pylori and stomach ulcer, and he became so
interested in psychosomatic medicine that in
2001 he was almost full-time involved in
hypnotism. He then received his professional
training in UK and in 2002 he opened his
hypnotherapy office in Italy.
Over time he then
became also teacher and supervisor (he was
encouraged by Ernest L. Rossi); in London he
received the APHP award: "the most outstanding
contribution to the hypnotherapy profession
2006" for the establishment of professional
hypnotherapy in Italy, which is a very hostile
country where there is still no recognition nor
protection at all for the growing hypnotherapy
practice. |
Presentation Time :
Saturday 12th September - 1200 - 1300
Paper Information : Very Safe and Effective: The
Ericksonian Hypnotherapy
Milton Erickson is very
famous, but his revolutionary hypnotherapeutic
approach is still rather unknown. The
Ericksonian approach provides a lot more
desirable solution for any client, because it
offers the unique opportunity of developing a
very ecologic hypnotic experience and it no
longer tries to impose certain hypnotherapeutic
techniques. To let the clients do their work at
their pace in they own way is of paramount
importance for the best possible outcome and
satisfaction. There are many important factors
that should be taken in account in order to
handle successfully almost any type of person. |

by many professionals. Roy has received numerous
awards, including recognition for lifetime
achievement. His experience as a hypnosis
trainer includes presenting a 2-day master class
on parts therapy at the London College of
Clinical Hypnosis, as well as hypnosis
conferences in both hemispheres. |
Presentation Time :
Saturday 12th September - 1400 - 1700
Paper Information : Client Centered Parts
Therapy Workshop
How can you effectively
help the client who struggles with an inner
conflict? Someone strongly desiring a goal, but
who also experiences self-sabotage, may be a
prime candidate for PARTS THERAPY or one of its
variations.
It is based on the concept that our personality
is composed of various parts, or aspects of the
subconscious, each with their respective jobs or
functions of the inner mind. In other words, we
wear different hats as we walk through the path
of life. Other techniques are similar, such as:
ego state therapy, voice dialogue, sub
personalities, conference room therapy, and
more. What makes parts therapy client centered
is that each part in the process provides its
own name and job purpose for the client. Also,
parts therapy incorporates deep hypnosis. Of all
the variations, ego state therapy most closely
resembles parts therapy, in that it is also
client centered and incorporates hypnosis as
well. Hypnosis improves the chances of lasting
success. |

Presentation Time
:Sunday 13th September – 0900 - 1030
Paper Information : The Four Cornerstones of
Successful Hypnotherapy
There are four important
hypnotherapy objectives, which provide a
blueprint for increasing the probability of
client success. I call them the four
cornerstones of successful hypnotherapy. They
are: (1) Suggestion and imagery, (2) Discover
the cause, (3) Release, and (4) Subconscious
relearning.
We can use these four cornerstones to evaluate
the efficacy of any hypnotic technique by
discerning which of the four hypnotherapy
objectives the technique may accomplish, which
is why I believe they form the foundation of
client centered hypnosis. |

inclusion of an Academy teaching program into a
university degree. Leon has been invited to
teach this inaugural program. |
Presentation Time :
Sunday 13th September - 1100 - 1230
Paper Information : Hypnotic Empty Chair
For many years the
methodology behind hypnosis in a clinical
setting was the authoritarian approach used by
the elders of our profession. There was no
thought of infusing hypnosis with other
techniques such a Gestalt Empty Chair. Basing
their consultations on the medical model, the
practitioner placed the patient (so termed
because they were medical practitioners and
psychologists) into the hypnotic state and then
told them what was best for them to think and
do.This
technique is so effective because it allows the
information to be gleaned from the client’s
subconscious mind. It fuses the ‘here and now’
concepts of Gestalt Empty Chair with the
amplification of hypnosis. This fusion
inherently brings about an instinctive
acceptance by the client of its accuracy. |

Presentation Time :
Sunday 13th September - 1330 - 1630
Paper Information : Hypnotherapy for Depression
& Anxiety Workshop
Panic attacks, phobias, extreme shyness,
obsessive-compulsive behaviours, and generalized
anxiety disrupt the lives of an estimated 15% of
the population.
Panic disorder manifests itself in unexpected or
unpredictable attacks of extreme anxiety, with
symptoms including rapid heartbeat, shortness of
breath, trembling, sweating, nausea and
dizziness. Some may have chest pain or
smothering sensations, and/or a sense of
unreality. Hands may tingle or feel numb, and
some feel flushed or chilled.
Panic disorder strikes at least 1.6 percent of
the population and is twice as common in women
as in men. It can appear at any age--in children
or in the elderly--but most often it begins in
young adults.
This workshop will detail a number of different
hypnotic approaches in the treatment of these
conditions. |

Presentation Time :
Sunday 13th September - 1330 - 1500
Paper Information : Hypno-Fertility
Although the
words “unexplained infertility” can be extremely
upsetting to women who have received this
diagnosis, “unexplained infertility” actually
means there is no physiological reason for a
woman not to become pregnant. Although women
often feel helpless upon learning of this
“condition” it is actually good news. In the
absence of a pathological impediment, most women
can be helped to achieve fertility by exploring
prior programming or emotional blocks.

Presentation Time :
Sunday 13th September - 1330 - 1500
Paper Information : Is it Classic Anxiety or
simply today's diet??
In this presentation, I will explore the
relationship that exists between Anxiety and
Hypoglycaemia. About ten years ago, I became
very aware that the dietary patterns of my
Anxiety clients were often both irregular and
nutritionally inadequate.
As I explored lifestyle
issues further, I reached the conclusion that
Hypoglycaemia is often a strong contributing
factor in the development of the anxious
personality, and that in fact a poor diet will
typically maintain this anxious style. |

Leanne Jackson
: Queensland, Australia
Leanne has been a
hypnotherapist for twenty three years. She
trained firstly as a Naturopath but after
completing her hypnosis training realized that
this was her main passion.
She set up and co-ordinated
Brisbane's first Natural Therapies Centre
comprising alternative modalities. Her extensive
practice in Hypnotherapy was very busy. After
many years she left the centre and began
travelling and working overseas. Upon her return
she began to look into birthing, using hypnosis,
and discovered the HypnoBirthing programme. Her
training in that direction lead her to becoming
the first practitioner in Brisbane, and over the
past eight years has seen the programme grow and
extend into most of the major hospitals. She now
lives north of Brisbane and continues to work as
a hypnotherapist. |
Presentation Time :
Sunday 13th September - 1530 - 1630
Paper Information : HYPNOBIRTHING - A
Celebration of Life.
HypnoBirthing is as much as a philosophy as it
is a technique. It is a rewarding, relaxing,
stress-free method of birthing that is based on
the belief that when a mother is properly
prepared for birthing physically, mentally and
spiritually, she can experience the joy of
birthing her baby in an easier, more comfortable
and often even, pain free manner. HypnoBirthing
returns to women the art of birthing in a way
that allows her to summon her natural birthing
instincts. HypnoBirthing is based on the belief
that severe discomfort does not need to be a
natural accompaniment of labour. |

Paper Information :
The Application
of the New Code of Neuro-Linguistic Programming
for Personal Change
Co-creator of NLP
John Grinder instigated a review and recoding of
Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) resulting in
what is now known as the new code of NLP.
Influenced by Grinder’s modeling of Erickson the
new code has as its basis an explicit
epistemology. This includes the separation of
NLP modelling from NLP applications, defined and
balanced roles for conscious attention and the
cognitive unconscious (conscious and unconscious
minds), the elaboration of the concept of
personal ecology as a condition of change,
inclusion of intention and consequences to frame
the choice of outcomes and the use of activities
to create high performance states. These
criteria underpin a set of new code design
principles for the practice and teaching of NLP.
